History of the Golden Divot

In 2001, three high school mates, driven by their passion for golf and their deep ties to their hometown, set out on a remarkable journey. They envisioned something greater than just a local golf event; they sought to create a community-driven tradition, one that reflected the spirit of Sawtell itself—unpretentious, tight-knit, and filled with the kind of generosity that makes our corner of the world unique. Inspired by the soothing rhythm of the ocean waves nearby, they laid the foundation for what would grow into a symbol of the very values they held dear: friendship, sportsmanship, and a commitment to giving back.
As we near our 25th anniversary, our community golf day stands as a testament to those original ideals. What started as a small gathering of friends has blossomed into a celebrated event, attracting golfers of all skill levels—from eager newcomers to seasoned professionals. But beyond the thrill of the game, it has become something far more significant: a time-honored tradition that fosters deep connections, strengthens old bonds, and creates new ones.
